Nelly

Nelly is a gentle, sweet Doberman mix with a loving heart and a soft, sensitive personality. In the home, she is a wonderfully affectionate companion who simply wants to be close to her people. Whether she’s lying at the foot of the bed, quietly following you from room to room, or relaxing comfortably in her crate, Nelly is happiest when she’s near the humans she trusts. While she is very loving at home, Nelly can be shy and cautious in new environments. She takes a little time to feel comfortable, but with patience and kindness she blossoms into a loyal, affectionate girl. Once she trusts you, Nelly becomes incredibly sweet, submissive, and happy to give and receive plenty of kisses. She is friendly with both people and other dogs, though her timid nature means she appreciates calm introductions and a peaceful environment. Nelly has a moderate energy level and enjoys getting exercise, especially when she has room to run. One of her favorite things is stretching her legs in a fenced-in yard where she can burn off some energy and explore freely. While she walks nicely on a leash and continues to practice her leash manners, she definitely enjoys having open space where she can feel more relaxed. She is fully potty trained and goes outside for all of her bathroom needs. Nelly also does well in her crate and sees it as a cozy place to settle and rest. She knows the command “sit” and is eager to keep learning as she builds confidence. When it comes to treats, Nelly is not picky—she happily accepts all kinds of treats, bones, and enjoys chewing on Kongs. She hasn’t shown much interest in toys yet, but that may change as she continues to feel more comfortable and playful. Because Nelly can be timid and a bit skittish, she does best in a calm home without overwhelming commotion. With a patient adopter who will give her time to adjust, she will truly shine. Nelly is a goofy, gentle, and incredibly loving pup who just wants to be wherever her people are. Those who meet her quickly realize that Nelly is something special. She’s a beautiful, kind-hearted dog who will make a devoted and wonderful companion for a lucky forever family. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
