My Story
Oliver is a delightful 33-year-old Moluccan Cockatoo! He has been with his current family since he was a baby, so he has had very consistent love and care in that time. Oliver vocalizes loudly like any cockatoo and is incredibly entertaining with his whistling and words. He says "Hi," "Hello Oliver," "Bye Bye" and could likely learn other phrases with patience and time. Similar to a lot of parrots, Oliver vocalizes more when he is left alone. Oliver gets plenty of out-of-cage time, but this would need to be supervised, as he will chew any wood around him (as will most parrots). Oliver loves to dance around, especially when people in the room are dancing with him, and he's very funny! He has a favorite tennis ball he plays with. He steps up and allows head scratches, but his mom recommends limiting them because, after too much time touching him, he seems to become overstimulated and can become aggressive. He shows pretty clear signs that his mood is changing; however, and if his boundaries are respected, bites are avoidable. Oliver's diet consists of pasta, a couple of vegetables, fruits, nutriberries, and Lafebers Tropical Fruit Pellets. He also appreciates junk food as treats, but his mom limits that. Oliver is presumed male, but has not been DNA tested. He tolerates the small dog in the house, but is jealous if his mom shows affection to the dog. He may do alright in a house with a dog, but based on this behavior, it may be risky to adopt him to a home with other birds. Despite that, the right person will have a very entertaining, beautiful, and sweet companion in Oliver! Oliver is in our Help with Rehoming program and is located in Cinnaminson, NJ. He will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance. We will NOT ship our birds. Three visits are required to adopt Oliver. For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. We do not have a central location. We only allow approved applicants to make visits. If interested in adopting Oliver, you must be willing to make the required number of visits. Please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org. Please read our adoption policies & procedures and complete an adoption application.
