My Story

Gretchen is a 10-year-old German Shepherd with a gentle heart and a lifetime of love still to give. This sweet old baby has the kind of soulful eyes that seem to understand everything you say. She’s the type of dog who will happily sit beside you while you read a book, watch TV, or enjoy a quiet afternoon. Gretchen has clearly spent her life being someone’s loyal companion, and she’s ready to be that special friend again for a lucky adopter.Like many senior shepherds, Gretchen has a little stiffness in her hips, but it certainly doesn’t slow her spirit. She can still get around just fine and enjoys taking relaxed strolls and exploring the yard. Once she warms up, she’ll even break into a playful trot when she sees another dog who wants to be friends. Gretchen absolutely loves the company of other dogs and seems happiest when she has a buddy to share her space and toys with.Despite her age, Gretchen still has a playful side that pops out in the cutest ways. She loves soft toys, gentle games, and will happily wag her tail like a puppy when you tell her she’s a good girl. She also has a funny little habit of leaning against people when she wants extra affection—her version of a big shepherd hug. And if you scratch behind her ears just right, she’ll close her eyes and melt into pure bliss.Gretchen is the perfect blend of calm companion and playful sweetheart. She’s past the wild puppy stage, but she still has plenty of love, joy, and tail wags to share. What she’s really looking for now is a cozy home, a comfy bed, and a family who will appreciate what a wonderful senior girl she is. If you’re looking for a loyal friend with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Gretchen might just be your perfect match. If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm.My adoption fee is Sponsored
