Meet Joshua (now named Barley), an affectionate, outdoors-loving adventure buddy with a gentle and sensitive heart. Barley is 6 years old and weighs 40 lbs. He may be a little shy at first, but once he feels safe, he bonds deeply and becomes a loyal best friend who loves being close to his person. Barley is incredibly smart and well-trained — he is fully potty trained, crate trained, knows many commands, and has great recall. He enjoys daily walks, hiking, running, and exploring new places, and has even gone on road trips and camping adventures across the Western U.S. He’s great in the car, loves rock-hopping on boulders, and enjoys fetch with squeaky balls. He’s not a swimmer, which actually makes him the perfect paddle-boarding passenger, he’ll happily stay on the board and take in the scenery! Barley thrives in a calm, predictable home where he can relax and feel secure. He can be a bit reserved when meeting new people, but with patience and gentle introductions, he warms up and becomes loving and affectionate. Barley prefers to be the only dog in the home and would do best with someone who is home often, as he experiences some separation anxiety and wants to be included in daily life — whether that’s adventuring outdoors or relaxing by your side while you work. He loves being petted, enjoys learning new tricks for treats, and will happily sleep in bed and stay curled up until you wake. With time, structure, and understanding, Barley truly shines, he has so much love to give and will make an amazing companion for someone who appreciates a devoted, active, and deeply loyal best friend. Joshua will need to be adopted by a family without young children. He is microchipped and up to date on all his vaccines. His adoption fee is $300.
