Sassafras Starlene w/Sugar Plum

Sassafras Starlene is a young racing pigeon (five months old) who was caught by a hawk and badly injured. She was torn open from the start of her throat almost to the end of her keel and yet, amazingly, was still able to get away and then, even more amazingly, live long enough to be rescued alive and rushed into Palomacy's network for avian vet care (lots of stitches) and fostering. Her foster carer writes, "I have never seen such a terrible wound. She was so traumatized and needs emotional support too. I have been working with her, showing her love and calmness. She is beginning to trust me. She lets me preen her head and neck feathers, trim her nails, give her medication and put cream on her wounds. She is starting to take a nap with me. She really is a sweetheart who has been through a tough time.
