My Story

Cicero is a very handsome red dun Quarter-type gelding. He was rescued with over 30 other equine and he was very scared when he first arrived at the Ranch. Cicero was severely malnourished, suffering from overgrown hooves, had no access to healthy feed and no shelter in the small pen that he was living in. After being treated for both external and internal parasites, vaccinated, and given the vet care he deserved, Cicero learned to trust the LRR staff and volunteers. Once he was a healthy weight and age, he was started under saddle and eventually adopted! Due to no fault of his own, Cicero returned to Longmeadow a little over ten years later and has been with us ever since! He has been put back into work after a brief evaluation period and is now ready to find his forever home!Upon his evaluation after his return, he was comfortable with our assistant trainer hopping on bareback with just a pad. However, introducing a saddle made him nervous. After a chiropractic evaluation, we discovered some soreness in his ribs and back. With tailored exercises and stretches recommended by the chiropractor, Cicero bounced back and is now happily working walk/trot/canter under saddle in the arena.Cicero is quite the intelligent gelding. Our trainers love how quickly he learns and how much he thrives when his mind is engaged. He can be a bit “looky” and alert to his surroundings, but he stays polite and manageable under saddle, especially when he has a job to do.On the ground, Cicero is charming and loves attention, but he is still learning about personal space and manners. He’ll paw if he feels ignored and may bump into his handler when distracted. With consistent groundwork, he’s already improving and has shown he wants to connect. This guy just needs guidance and routine. At times he misses his equine buddies, so continued work on confidence and independence will benefit him greatly.Cicero has come a long way and is eager to keep learning with the right partner. If you’re a confident, strong intermediate rider ready for a super smart, personable horse with a ton of potential, Cicero might be your guy!*It should be noted that Cicero is on 1 tab of Equioxx daily to help ease discomfort caused by age-related arthritis. He will need to continue this medication in his future home if being ridden.*Adoption Fee: $1,000Height: 14.2hhMaximum Carrying Weight (includes tack and rider): 195lbs
