My Story
Hello there, my dear human friend. My name is Toulose , and I have a story to tell you. It’s a story about a little calico kitten with a big heart, about a family that grew and grew, and about the brave and difficult choices that sometimes have to be made. I hope you’ll stay and listen for a little while, because it's also a story about hope—about finding a new chapter when one has closed. When I was just a little wisp of fur, a tiny kitten no bigger than a teacup, I was in a place called the Houston Humane Society. It was a big, loud place, full of other kittens, and I spent my days dreaming of a cozy blanket and a warm lap. One afternoon, my wish came true. A kind-eyed human woman, with her hair tied up in a messy bun and a weary but gentle expression, came to my cage. She had been searching, and when our eyes met, I knew. She picked me up, and I instantly started to purr. It was the beginning of our forever. My mom was a medical student back then. Our first home was a tiny apartment, and my whole world was contained within those four walls and her loving arms. I was her shadow. I would sit on her textbooks late at night, purring as she studied. She'd rub my head with her pencil and whisper to me that I was her best study buddy. We were a team, navigating the world together. The years went by, full of late-night purrs and morning cuddles. When she finished her schooling, we packed up our things and moved. It was an exciting adventure! A new city, a new apartment, and a new life for us both. I didn’t care where we were, as long as I was with my mom. She started her residency, which meant even longer hours, but I was always there, waiting by the door, ready to greet her with a soft meow and a headbutt to her leg. We were always there for each other, through thick and thin. After what felt like a lifetime of just the two of us, our family began to grow. First, my mom found her partner for life, a kind man who learned my favorite scratching spots and always gave me the best chin scratches. Then came two wonderful, goofy dogs. At first, I was a little skeptical. They were so big and loud! But they had such sweet, gentle souls. I quickly learned that chasing their tails was a fantastic game, and snuggling up with them for a nap was the warmest, softest thing in the world. We became a pack, a happy, rowdy bunch. The best part of all was when my baby human came home. I remember the day so clearly. He was so tiny, so delicate. I was so excited! I would sit near his crib and watch him as he slept, marveling at the little sighs and wriggles. As he grew, I would follow him around the house, watching his every move. I enjoyed watching him discover the world, and I was so happy to be his little protector and friend. When he was about a year and a half, he would chase me with a soft laugh, and I would let him, because I just loved being around him. He was a perfect little human, and I adored him. My heart was so full of love for my big, beautiful, bustling family. But then, things started to change. My baby human began to sneeze and cough. He would get little red bumps on his skin whenever he was close to me, even if I was just a few feet away. My mom and dad tried everything. They cleaned the house constantly. They got air purifiers. They gave me special wipes. I didn’t understand what was happening, but I knew my human was not feeling well, and that made me sad. The doctor said he had a severe allergy to cats, and that the only way to help him was to make sure I wasn’t in the house. I watched my mom’s face as she heard those words, and my heart broke for her. I knew how much she loved me, and I knew how much it hurt her to hear that. The day I left was one of the hardest. My mom held me close and cried, and I purred as loud as I could, trying to tell her that it was okay, that I understood. I moved in with my grandparents, and they are wonderful. They are so gentle and kind, and they spoil me with cuddles and treats. I have a big, comfy bed, and they give me all the attention I could ever want. But I miss my family. I miss my mom and her soft hands. I miss my dad and his chin scratches. I miss my dog friends and their funny snores. And most of all, I miss my little human. I think about him every day, and I hope he is healthy and happy. I know that the future holds something good for me. I am a friendly, talkative, and very cute calico, you know. I love to cuddle and I have a happy purr that can fill a room. I'm moderately active and I love to play with my toys and chase after a laser pointer. And if you have dogs or children, that’s even better! I have so much love to give, and I’m ready to share it with a new family. My tenth birthday is coming up in October, and what better gift could I get than a new, forever home where I can fill the air with my happy purrs? So, if you’re looking for a cuddle buddy, a friendly face to greet you at the door, and a talkative companion to share your days with, I hope you'll consider me. I promise to fill your life with love and purrs, just as I have for my other family. My heart is full of gratitude for the life I’ve had, and I am so hopeful for the life to come.
