My Story
Juno is an OTTB that came to us after a tractor-trailer accident in October 2020. She, along with multiple other horses, was on the way to slaughter when the trailer overturned in the rain. Juno was one of the surviving horses who came to Longmeadow, where she had her wounds treated and began rehabilitation! After the accident, Juno spent several months at the ranch having some well-deserved downtime. She was restarted slowly by our trainer and showed amazing potential. She was calm and level-headed, not to mention beautiful! She went to a few schooling shows with our trainer and her team and had positive experiences. She was adopted in 2021 but returned almost two years later due to her adopterâs health. After her return to Longmeadow, Junoâs adopter shared that she had developed some vices under saddle that we had not previously seen before her adoption. These behaviors were likely due to inconsistent riding at her adoptive home, due to her ownerâs health. Once back in training at the Ranch, Juno also began showing signs of lameness. Multiple vet exams were conducted, and while therapeutic front shoes were recommended to improve her comfort, she continued to show discomfort under saddle. Then, further vet exams suggested a possible ligament issue, which would require surgical diagnostics to confirm. After extensive evaluations and careful consideration, we determined that the best course for Juno at this time is a break from work. She is currently enjoying time barefoot in the pasture, spending her days with her herd.If a future adopter is interested in Juno as a riding horse, she will need to be fitted with therapeutic shoes again and undergo further diagnostics to address her lameness and ensure her comfort under saddle. However, Juno is equally happy as a companion horse, where she can ârelaxâ in a pasture with other equine and spend her time outside. No matter what, this tall, beautiful Thoroughbred will need a home with ample space where she can do what she loves most: run freely with her friends. One of Junoâs most unique and endearing traits? She only has one eye! In 2024, her right eye was removed by a veterinarian after reoccurring, painful infections. Since then, sheâs adapted remarkably well to having limited vision on that side. Juno doesnât spook easily and quickly adjusts to new environments. Her one-eyed status hasnât slowed her down a bit. In fact, we think it only adds to her silly and playful personality!Juno has wonderful ground manners, a fun personality, and remains a very willing partner. She enjoys the company of both people and other horses here at the Ranch. Juno stands well for our farrier during her trims and is great for needles, oral medications, eye medications, and vet exams. She is a good girl for baths and fly spray. If adopted as a riding horse, Juno will need an advanced rider who intends to put her into a consistent work program of 4-5 days per week. This Thoroughbred thrives with a routine and would benefit both mentally and physically from constant turnout in her new home as well.Height: 15.3hhMax carrying weight: 230 lb (includes tack and rider)Adoption Fee: $500
