My Story

Meet Stu! Stu came to Longmeadow as a stud in the winter of 2023. He was underweight and did not have much experience being handled. After lots of groundwork training and castration, along with all other medical care, this stud-turned-gelding is now ready for adoption! For a stud with no previous training, we think Stu picked up on everything pretty quickly. When he learned that a halter wasn't too bad, it made his groundwork training much easier. While he is still learning to accept oral medications and dewormer, he is coming around quite nicely in other parts of his training! He is good for trailer loading and doesn't mind standing tied (and he’s a pro at ground tying!). He has come a far way with our farrier as well – in the beginning, he dreaded farrier days. Now, Stu stands like a prince! He really enjoys the company of his buddies and is working on becoming more independent when away from them. He gets along well with both mares and geldings, but his adopter should be reminded that he was gelded at 10, so his stud-like tendencies still come out at times. He has never shown aggression towards humans or other horses – just excitement! We sent Stu to a professional trainer, and he did well learning the basics under saddle. However, as his training progressed, Stu began to act uncomfortable while being ridden. Upon a thorough vet examination, we unfortunately found Stu to have kissing spine. While we stopped riding him here at the Ranch, it should be know that there are surgeries that can be performed to fix his kissing spine if his future adopter wants him as a riding horse. If Stu is adopted as a pasture pet, his adopter should know that he thrives with routine. He tends to become anxious if his pasture mates are switched out often. This handsome Thoroughbred has a full life ahead of him and we can't wait to see where his next chapter takes him! Adoption Fee: $400Height: 15.3hh
