My Story

Meet Baxter — a calm, gentle boy who somehow became the shelter’s longest-staying resident, and honestly? We can’t figure out why. This handsome 63-pound guy is one of the easiest dogs you’ll ever meet.Baxter greets every visitor at his kennel door with a wagging tail and zero drama. He loves treats (and takes them so politely), enjoys a good scratch session, and will happily warm up to kids, men, and women alike. By the end of a walk, he was handing out kisses — because that’s just the kind of sweetheart he is.He’s still learning the ropes of leash walking — it seems like the great outdoors might be pretty new to him — but he improved noticeably over the course of a single day, which tells you everything you need to know about how bright and willing he is. He already knows “sit” and appears to be potty trained.Baxter absolutely lights up around other dogs. No barking, no aggression — just a wagging tail and playful curiosity. He’s currently cohoused with a shelter buddy and the two are adorable together. His playgroup evaluation came back PG1-Social, meaning he plays well with others.Car ride? No problem. He settled right in.Baxter came to us as a stray on January 8th, and he’s been patiently waiting for someone to notice him ever since.
