My Story

Old man Cooper just wants a home with people. He has three favorite spots. First is on your lap. He’s certain he’s a lap dog…at 60 pounds. Second is in his crate. He’s fully crate trained and loves chilling out in it. Third is outside. Specifically out in the sun. He likes getting his vitamin D. We leave our sliding door open for him to go in and out as he pleases. He is housebroken, Crate trained and knows “sit”. We have trained him to wait for his food and he’s even learning “out of the kitchen.” He loves walks in the neighborhood and he has almost mastered walking well on a leash. He gets along well with other dogs. He’s not totally playful, but seems to like company. He is curious on walks, but not reactive. He is liking having his own toys and blankets. So much so that if you try to take the toy or move the blanket—he will let you know he’s unpleased. We are working on teaching him that he can growl all he wants, but we humans call the shots. He needs an owner who will show him that he is safe and secure and does not need to guard his stuff. While that might be a natural instinct in the animal world—we don’t tolerate that in a home with a family. So he is learning that. It will take time, patience, and repetition, but he seeks to be a teachable dog—even at 8 years old!
