My Story
Meet Momoa! Momoa came to us after his owners could no longer care for him due to their declining health. He spent nearly 18 years in the same loving home, living the dream as a pasture pet and full-time human companion. It was a difficult decision for his owners to make, but they knew Momoa would find a good home through Longmeadow. After spending some time in quarantine and then being introduced to life in the âbig barns,â Momoa was finally ready to be evaluated by our trainers. Upon evaluation, our trainers found that Momoa was never trained under saddle. He also needed some groundwork training. He was put into our groundwork program where he learned basic pressure and release techniques, as well as how to stand kindly for our vets and our farrier. While he is still learning that patience is a virtue and the farrier really isnât all that bad, he has come a long way from the gelding he was upon his arrival. He is still working on allowing us to pick up all four feet and how to stand quietly for fly spray. Momoa will need a patient adopter who can continue desensitization training with him and continue to give him the attention he needs to excel. Momoa thrives with someone calm and consistent, the type who celebrates small wins and doesnât mind that some things are still a work in progress. In return, youâll get a gentle, expressive-eyed gelding who wants to be your friend first and foremost. If youâre looking for a kind, steady companion and donât mind a little ongoing education, Momoa may just be your perfect match. He has a big body(16hh), soft heart, and a lifetime of love to give. Heâs wonderfully sweet, people-oriented, and genuinely enjoys attention, grooming, and being told heâs handsome (which he absolutely is).Momoa would be fine as a pasture companion but could also go to an adopter who can put him into a training program under a professional trainer. He will require an intermediate handler.Adoption Fee: $600 Height: 16hhMaximum Carrying Weight (includes tack and rider): 275lbs
