My Story

Dexter is a handsome 5-year-old, 65 lb Rottweiler with a classic rottie personality. He can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but once he warms up, he’s friendly and easygoing. Dexter is well-mannered and has clearly had a great foundation—he’s crate trained, housebroken, and rides calmly in the car. Dexter is dog social and enjoys his walks, thanks to being easy and relaxed on leash. He’s a typical male Rottie: loyal, steady, and happiest when he knows his routine. Because of his sensitive nature, Dexter would do best in a home without young children. He has not been cat tested. If you’re looking for a solid, well-behaved companion who just needs a little time to build trust, Dexter may be your perfect match. Here is what his foster says:    Dexter is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart once you meet him. He has settled into his foster home remarkably quickly and has revealed himself to be an incredibly sweet, affectionate little companion. His favorite place is wherever his person is. If you sit down, Dexter will likely be nearby hoping for cuddles, belly rubs, or simply a spot beside you. He has a gentle, loyal personality and tends to follow his person around the house like Velcro. Dexter is very easygoing and low-maintenance day to day. He enjoys his walks and does well on a leash, although he sometimes protests heading back home because he’d happily stay outside exploring longer. The good news is that he is very food-motivated, which makes training much easier. He recently learned how to sit and is starting to figure out other basics. It seems likely that he simply hasn’t had much prior training, so with patience and consistency he should continue to pick things up quickly. One of the sweetest things about Dexter is how affectionate he is with people. He loves meeting new humans and happily wants to say hello. He also seems to enjoy other dogs. At home he spends a lot of time snoozing and relaxing, making him a great companion for someone looking for a calm presence. Dexter is still discovering how to be a dog. He doesn’t quite know what to do with toys yet and is slowly coming out of his shell as he gains confidence. He can be a little skittish with certain handling and currently doesn’t enjoy being picked up, but he has already made progress with things like wearing a collar. With time, kindness, and a stable routine, he continues to grow more comfortable every day. Because he can be a bit sensitive and easily startled, a home with older children or adults would likely be the best fit. What Dexter really wants is a patient, loving person who will give him the time and reassurance he needs while enjoying all the cuddles he has to offer. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will happily follow you around, curl up beside you, and greet you with quiet affection, Dexter may be the perfect match.
