When she was rescued just minutes from euthanasia, she was very fearful—especially of men and new people—but with patience and kindness she’s learned how to relax and trust. Today, she’s a loving companion who adores belly rubs, toys, brushing, baths, and car rides, and she’s fully housebroken with dog-door skills to match. She’s well-behaved in the home (her toys are the only victims), eager to please, and knows basic commands, though she would benefit from continued work with a trainer—especially around new people and other animals. She  can be reactive at first when people enter the home or yard, but she settles down quickly  once she realizes they’re not a threat. She would do best in a calm  home where she can be the only pet and given time to build trust. With a little time and care, Athena  will make an incredibly loyal and loving companion.
