My Story

Hi, my name is Zalika but my foster family calls me Zali! I am a beautiful 2 year old boxer girl that didn’t have an easy start in life by living in a breeding/hoarding situation and while sometimes the world can feel a little scary, I have learned that being in a home is pretty amazing! I am a very smart girl and I really want to make my people happy, which means I learn quickly! I came to my foster home with no house manners, but have since become house trained and I go right into my crate when I am offered a treat. As I’ve gotten more comfortable, my personality is starting to come out - I’m playful and very curious! I have the softest fur, the fastest tail wag, and I give the sweetest kisses! I love the other dogs in my foster home - I cuddle with them, play with them, and follow their lead! There are no cats in my foster home but I did chase a field mouse that came in the yard one night so proper introductions would be needed! There are no kids in my foster home and although I am very gentle and would do well with dog savvy kids, the loud and unpredictable nature of smaller kids would probably be very overwhelming to me and I would likely do best with older kids. I'm not overly energetic but I have a playful side running zoomies with the resident dogs and emptying the entire toy box searching for the perfect one to play with! The outside world is still a work in progress for me. I am very gentle, but sudden noises and new movements can make me freeze and shake. I’m doing better in the backyard, though sometimes I still need a little help getting started so my foster parents will carry me out. I am very curious about walks and get excited with the resident dogs, but can only make it about halfway down the sidewalk before I freeze and want to go back to my safe home. I'm also gaining confidence in car rides and getting pup cups or positive reinforcement when we go has helped! I’m showing improvement every day so with patience and encouragement I’ll continue building my confidence! My ideal family will be patient and understand that bravery takes time. A home with another friendly dog would be a dream come true for me so I have someone to play with, help guide me and build my confidence, and show me the ropes of 'the good life'! If you think I would make a great addition to your family contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!If you're interested in fostering a dog, please fill out the Foster Application  https://austinboxerrescue.com/ways-to-help/foster/  If you're interested in adopting a dog, please fill out the Adoption Application http://austinboxerrescue.com/adoption-application/Our volunteers will work with you to find the best dog for your home.
