My Story

Sancho is a sweetheart who just needs a wee confidence boost. He is a new arrival and we are still getting to know him. We will continue to update his bio as we learn more about this charming little chi-weenie! It's been a few days and Sancho has had ZERO accidents in the house and his kennel! He doesn't give a signal that he needs to go outside, yet. He is Not a marker. He is a little king though, and as such, he needs his entourage to accompany him when going potty. Otherwise, he won't step outside. But hey, at least he's not a flight risk!   Sancho is doing great with the resident small dog and is unbothered by the neighbors barking/fence charging dogs, both big and little. He walks well on a leash, and does great in the car. He does not appear to know any commands, tricks, or his name. We enjoy training and will work on this. Sancho sleeps in a kennel in our bedroom. He whines for a minute and then sleeps quietly though the night. He does not want to go into the kennel, and I would Not consider him kennel trained. We will start kennel training him.   Sancho can jump a 2ft. baby gate - I've seen him do it. ~Somehow~ he is getting over a 3ft. baby gate. Despite getting into areas we were trying to restrict, he has been a very good boy and has not taken, gotten into, eaten, or destroyed ANYTHING!   Sancho does a appear to have some separation anxiety from his designated safe person. This manifests as: pacing, whining, scaling baby gates, sitting waiting in front of the door you exited from, watching out the window for you, & not eating when you're gone. We are going to work on fixing this using Susan Garrett's FRIDA Method. (Free video on YouTube!)   Sancho is currently a little nervous in general. Some examples: if you move too fast he may startle. He is unsure about pets, but but likes to cuddle. He will bark a little, and sometimes growl, when new people knock and enter the house - it's fear, not aggression. I expect this will improve as we build up his confidence. He is an easy dog, just needs a little training.
