Meet Hazel!Hazel came to Longmeadow in the summer of 2024. She was mistrusting of humans at first and It took some time and patience for our staff to handle her safely. With the help of our groundwork team and more experienced staff members, Hazel was eventually safe to lead and learned how to stand for our vets and farrier.Upon her initial evaluation, our trainers believed Hazel had some training under saddle at some point in her past. However, due to some negative behaviors she exhibited upon having her first rider on her back at the Ranch, the training team decided to take it slow and work to build Hazel’s trust and confidence. After spending some time with us learning (or re-learning) her basic groundwork skills and manners, we decided to send Hazel to a trainer outside of Longmeadow.While there, she had a 60-day refresher where she continued her groundwork and desensitization training. She also spent some time under saddle. When she returned to Longmeadow, Hazel was put back into our training program to continue her refresher. At this time, she is still considered green under saddle and will require an adopter who can continue her training with the help of a professional trainer.
