My Story
Peggy is a coonhound mix who came to us on 2/26/2026, after fulfilling her legal stray hold at the city pound. She could be related to dogs we've had over the last couple of years whose parents were a Great Dane mix and bluetick coonhound, which would make her 2 to 3 years old. Peggy arrived with a significant growth in one eye. This did result in her eye being surgically removed during her spay surgery. Dogs are very resilient, however, and we know she'll adjust well to this new normal. She has been completely vetted now, is chipped, and her fee is $150. Peggy is really a delightful gal who is looking for a home that is somewhat accustomed to hounds. They tend to be controlled by their noses and can be a bit stubborn and vocal. Peggy is loving and affectionate and will require regular exercise. She does seem to have had some basic training. We think she could be okay with a well mannered male dog. Cats are probably a no. Kids over 5 should be fine with her. She is not a dog for apartment living. NOTE: Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.
