My Story

General Notes | Choco has traded in the high-speed puppy zoomies for a life of seasoned wisdom, calm companionship, and master-level relaxing. With his soft, cocoa-colored coat and soulful amber eyes, he is the kind of dog who understands exactly what you are thinking before you even say a word. Choco is the ultimate low-stress partner. He has mastered the art of being a loyal sidekick, whether he is joining you for a gentle neighborhood stroll or holding down the fort on his favorite dog bed while you work. He is sweet, steady, and entirely devoted to his favorite people. If you are looking for a gentle soul to fill your home with quiet comfort and reliable friendship, Choco is ready to be your most loyal companion for all the golden years ahead.  Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP, and an Adoption Coordinator will be in touch within a few days. Our standard application processing timeline is 12 - 14 days. Personality | Sweet as chocolate of course! Choco is friendly to people, doggies, and the resident cats.  He appreciates being near his people and shares affection, LOOOOOVES a good nap on the couch, and is a relaxed guy. Choco will happily nap at your feet while you are working at your desk, he's an extra good work from home buddy!  Choco loves to be with his people and needs an adopter who will not leave him home alone long hours. Story | Choco found himself in a tough situation in East Texas where his owner became unable to care for Choco.  Some kind folks stepped up to take care of Choco when his owner could not, but they knew he needed something more permanent, that Choco would love to be a Colorado dog and he deserved a family who would love this sweet guy full time.Other Dogs | Yes! Choco is good with other dogs and his foster home has another dog and they get along well.Cats | Yes! Choco is good with kitties, his foster home has 2 cats and they get along well.Children | Yes!  He can jump up on people initially due to enthusiasm to say howdy, but he quickly understands "4 on the floor" is the better way to say hi.Training | Choco will sit for treats, he is food motivated.  He has great manners inside the home: Choco is crate trained but he is not destructive and can be left home free roam in home. Choco rides great in the car. Leash | Working on not-pulling, Choco uses a no-pull harness.  Choco really enjoys his daily walks!  Activity Level | Low-Moderate - your typical lab at this age:  he's the perfect blend of "ready to go and ready to relax." :)  Choco has the perfect balance of energy— he loves going on walks and play, but calm and easy to live with.  One of Choco's favorite things: sunbathing in the back yard and soaking up the Colorado sunshine!Health Notes | Choco is up to date on his vaccinations, he is neutered and heartworm negative!  Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
