My Story

My name is Munya and I came into the shelter super scared, but I have warmed up with some patient people and some gentle TLC. I came in with another dog who I seemed to get along with well. Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive, but don't worry - OCAS will cover the cost of my treatment! Foster notes on Munya:`Munya was very sweet and had a pretty calm temperament, just nervous. She was not food motivated at all. She enjoys going outside to walk and sniff but also seems pretty relaxed and seems like she loves to lay down and just get pets. Her biggest challenge was getting her in the car, I had to pick her up and close the door quickly so she couldn’t get out. She didn’t have any issues while actually driving, it was just difficult to entice her because she isn’t food motivated. She just seemed to prefer being out of it but she didn’t seem uncomfortable while the car was going. On our Dog Day Out, I first stopped at Starbucks to give her a pup cup (& water) and reward her for being brave in the car but she didn’t seem interested in it at all so we did a quick walk around the complex nearby. I took her to the Johnston Mill Nature Preserve and she did a quick walk, but mostly wanted to sniff. Since I am not nearby I couldn’t take her back to my apartment but I could tell she wanted to rest. She was pretty brave with environment she would get surprised by new sounds but it wouldn’t make her freak out, truck noises, other people or dogs. I wanted to give her some time in the AC so we went to the nearby Pet Supplies Plus to walk through it, she liked sniffing around but didn’t seem particularly intrigued by anything. I think she would do well in a moderate energy household and she gets comfortable with new people pretty quickly. She kept her distance from me at the start but slowly wanted pets more and more and wanted to sit in my lap in the car. She’s super sweet and you can tell she just wants to feel comfortable. I think she would be a lovely pet to someone!`
