About the Schapendoes
The Schapendoes is a traditional Dutch herding dog, originally used as an agile and intelligent drover and herder for sheep flocks on the heathlands and farmlands. Nearly extinct after World War II, it was revived by dedicated enthusiasts and is prized for its nimbleness, endurance, and exceptionally gentle, cheerful temperament with both livestock and people. This medium-sized, long-haired breed is known for its bouncy, light-footed gait and its role as a lively, affectionate family companion.
