About the Samoyed
The Samoyed is an ancient arctic breed developed by the Samoyede people of Siberia as a reindeer herder, sled puller, and family companion. Named for its iconic "Samoyed smile"—an upturn of the lips that prevents drool from freezing in cold weather—this spitz-type dog is renowned for its friendly and gentle disposition. With a magnificent pure white double coat that is naturally dirt-repellent, dark almond-shaped eyes, and a characteristic plumed tail carried over the back, the Samoyed combines striking beauty with a playful, affectionate nature. These intelligent dogs form strong bonds with their families and remain puppy-like well into old age, though their independent streak requires patient, consistent training. While generally healthy, the breed can be prone to certain genetic conditions including hereditary glomerulopathy and hip dysplasia.
