About the Basset Hound
The Basset Hound is a short-legged, scent hound breed of French origin, developed to hunt small game such as rabbits and hare by scent, moving slowly so hunters could follow on foot. Renowned for its extraordinary sense of smell, second only to the Bloodhound, and its characteristic long, heavy body, short legs, and long ears, it is a gentle, friendly, and sometimes stubborn companion with a laid-back personality and a distinctive, baying bark.
